The Vail Valley offers some of the finest fireworks celebrations in the entire state of Colorado.  The festivities begin on July 3 with the largest fireworks show in the state on Nottingham Lake located in Avon.

The annual Independence Day celebration will begin at 5 p.m. with music, food vendors, and a beer garden. A free Family Zone will offer families carnival games, inflatable jumping toys, face painting, clowns and a special children’s instrument petting zoo presented by Bravo! The fireworks will light the sky at 9:45 p.m.

DJ Logic takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. The evening concludes with the Colorado Rockies’ largest fireworks display, which will kick off at 9:45 p.m. and will be choreographed to a musical score simulcast on 97.7 KZYR The Zephyr.

Leave dogs, alcohol, grills and personal fireworks at home. Blankets and warm evening attire are recommended. Stopping on I-70 is against the law and will be strictly enforced by local law enforcement.

“Not only is this against the law it is very dangerous; we would like to invite these folks to park within the Town and enjoy our event in a safe environment,” said Avon Police Chief Bob Ticer.

Parking on Town streets is not permitted.

Highlighting the weekend activities will be the traditional Vail Fourth of July parade on Sunday.  The parade starts at Golden Peak and then continues west to Hanson Ranch road, north on Bridge street, west on Gore Creek Drive, north across the International bridge, west along Meadow Drive and finally, weaves through the Lionshead Mall and to the finish.  The rest of the day’s celebrations include a patriotic concert, Vail Farmers’ market and a fireworks display in Vail.  Upon conclusion of the fireworks, a town of Vail public safety campaign will be enacted that enlists parental supervision of younger family members.

Golf in the Vail Valley

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

While Vail maybe be best known for some of the best skiing in the world, it is slowly becoming just as known for it’s summers and all the wonderful summer activities.  One of the best summer activities that the Vail Valley has to offer is golf.  There are now fifteen golf courses in Eagle County, all within a thirty minute drive of Vail.

Some of the golf courses are completely open to the public such as the Vail Golf Course and the Eagle Vail Golf Course, some are semi-private where members receive the prime tee times and other times are open to the public.  A few examples are the Beaver Creek Golf Course and the Sonnenalp Golf Course in Edwards.  Some of the courses are members only (and their invited guests).  Arrowhead and Eagle Springs are a few examples.

The golf courses in the Vail Valley are building a reputation as some of the best in the country.  Avid golfers are realizing that Vail has some of the most beautiful and challenging courses anywhere and the summer months in Vail offer a perfect golf climate, usually in the low to mid 80’s.  They also love the fact that the golf ball travels about 10% farther in our mountain air.  Many golfers who live in states with very high summer temperatures such as Arizona and Texas travel to Colorado for our picture perfect summer golf.

Our concierge service can assist golfers with useful information and to assist with tee times.  You can visit our concierge webpage .  For information on all of the courses in the Vail Valley including prices, location and dress codes please visit http://golfvailvalley.com/

How to enjoy the “mud season”

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Ski season in the Vail Valley has just wrapped up.  What is a local and visitor to do now?  Not to worry, there is still much to enjoy in our beautiful Valley.

The weather has been getting much warmer in the past week, peaking in the upper fifties.  On Sunday, April 18 it got up to 71 degrees in Eagle, which is located 30 miles West of Vail.  This warmer weather has opened up some of the hiking trails, and biking season has begun.  There are a few mountain bike trails open in the Edwards area, and the road bikers are out in full force.  If hiking and bikiing aren’t your thing, maybe it’s time to dust off those golf clubs and get swinging.  A number of our local courses have opened including the Sonnenalp Golf Course in Edwards and Eagle Ranch in Eagle.  If you are open to a beautiful drive, check out the Lakota Golf Course just west of Glenwood Springs.  Driving thru Glenwood Canyon is one of the most beautiful drives in the country.

The off season is also the perfect time to enjoy some of your favorite restaurants at a discount.  Many of the best restaurants in town offer up to half off specials during this time of year.  Check the Vail Daily for all the current updated specials.

As the days pass and the weather gets warmer and warmer, more hiking and biking trails will continue to open, the white water rafting companies will be begin running and more of the golf courses will continue to open up.   Of course if you haven’t gotten rid of the ski bug, there’s always Arapahoe Basin about 45 minutes away.  Enjoy the mud season.

Travelers insurance

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

When booking a reservation with us at Prudential Colorado Properties, you are given the option of purchasing “travelers insurance” for an extra fee.  We offer a product thru an independent company called Travelguard.  They are the largest travelers insurance company in the country.  Basically it works like this.  If you choose to purchase the insurance (and it is totally optional), the cost is 7% of your entire reservation.  So, if your reservation and tax totals $1,000 than the cost of the insurance is an extra $70.  The insurance must be purchased by the time your final payment is due. If the insurance is purchased within 21 days of your initital reservation than Travelguard will waive any pre-exisitng conditions.

There are various components of what is included in the travelers insurance.  The most important and most frequently used is the trip cancellation and interruption.  This covers the cost of your trip if you must cancel or interrupt your trip for reasons such as sickness, injury or death to you, your traveling companion, a family member, service animal or business partner.  It also covers inclement weather, military duty, employer terminations, layoffs or job transfers, involved in or delayed in a traffic accident.

Other parts of the insurance coverage include:

$600 trip delay: Reimburses up to $200 a day for reasonable expenses.

$1,000 baggage: Reimburses you if your baggage is lost, stolen or dama.ed on your trip.

$1,000 baggage delay: Reimburses (up to $200 a day) for purchasing essential items when bags are delayed more than 12 hours.

$25,000 Medical Expense: Covers emergency medical expenses incurred while traveling, includes emergency dental treatment.

$500,000 Emergency evacuation: Covers evacuation and transportation to the nearest adequete medical facility when required by and attending physician.

$100,000 accidental death and dismemberment: Covers for loss of life or limb within 180 days of an accident on your trip.

$25,000 car rental collission coverage: Covers damage due to collission, vandalism, theft, windstorm, fire, hail or flood.

If indeed you have to turn in a claim to the insurance company, we put you in touch directly with Travelguard.  They will process your claim quickly and professionally.  We have found them to be excellent to work with and very efficient in processing claims.

Again, the travelers insurance program is completely optional.  We do strongly recommend, that all guests purchase the insurance.  One never knows what can come up in their life that might prevent or delay a trip.  Please ask us if you have any further questions or would like to see a sample policy. The items listed about should not be considered a sample policy as terms and conditions can change.
