How to enjoy the “mud season”

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Ski season in the Vail Valley has just wrapped up.  What is a local and visitor to do now?  Not to worry, there is still much to enjoy in our beautiful Valley.

The weather has been getting much warmer in the past week, peaking in the upper fifties.  On Sunday, April 18 it got up to 71 degrees in Eagle, which is located 30 miles West of Vail.  This warmer weather has opened up some of the hiking trails, and biking season has begun.  There are a few mountain bike trails open in the Edwards area, and the road bikers are out in full force.  If hiking and bikiing aren’t your thing, maybe it’s time to dust off those golf clubs and get swinging.  A number of our local courses have opened including the Sonnenalp Golf Course in Edwards and Eagle Ranch in Eagle.  If you are open to a beautiful drive, check out the Lakota Golf Course just west of Glenwood Springs.  Driving thru Glenwood Canyon is one of the most beautiful drives in the country.

The off season is also the perfect time to enjoy some of your favorite restaurants at a discount.  Many of the best restaurants in town offer up to half off specials during this time of year.  Check the Vail Daily for all the current updated specials.

As the days pass and the weather gets warmer and warmer, more hiking and biking trails will continue to open, the white water rafting companies will be begin running and more of the golf courses will continue to open up.   Of course if you haven’t gotten rid of the ski bug, there’s always Arapahoe Basin about 45 minutes away.  Enjoy the mud season.
